We Help Save Lives
We are proud to report that our 10th Annual 2006 Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure® was a tremendous success, raising over $2.5 million, with over 24,500 participants. Up to seventy-five percent of these net funds stay in our Sacramento Valley service area providing screening, education, and support services. As a result, Komen Sacramento offers numerous local programs and projects within our community. One such service is our free email reminders for the monthly BSE (Breast Self Exam) and annual mammogram recommended for women age 40 and up. We'd like to share the story of a lucky member of our Komen community, Michelle, 52, who, like many in the Sacramento Valley, had not only heard of Komen's Race for the Cure®, but each spring makes a pledge to support the Race. Today, she is grateful she signed up for our mammogram reminder service on our website.

Affiliate Web Site Wins a Dottie!
The Sacramento Valley Affiliate has distinguished itself again. Out of 143 total nominees, our Sacramento Affiliate's web site won a "Dottie" (as in dot.com, dot.org, etc.) as best in the Non-Profit, Clubs and Associations category. Komen also won TOP DOT for the highest overall score over all 15 categories 53 total finalist.

First Annual Lobby Day a Great Success
On Tuesday, January 24, eight representatives from California Affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation met with key state legislators to talk about the importance of breast health and encourage them to support programs that provide breast cancer education, screening, and treatment access to their constituents.

Komen Paints the Town Pink!
Anyone driving past the state capital on the evening of January 24 was treated to a spectacular sight the entire building awash in stunning pink! To kick off the 10th annual Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure®, the Sacramento Valley Affiliate decided to "Paint the Town Pink," starting with the capital building, the site of the first Race for the Cure® in Sacramento.
